Domain B - Assessing Student Learning
Developing and improving instruction is impossible without assessment. Teachers must constantly be assessing how well students understand the content in order to make adjustments to instruction and material to provide extra input or support where needed. This kind of assessment is called formative and its purpose is to provide a basis for improving instruction in the short term. Assessment can also be summative. Summative assessment is what we normally think of when we hear assessment - tests, high-stakes projects, large writing assignments - that result in a grade. Summative assessment informs not only the teacher, but parents, administrators, and state officials.Teaching Performance Expectations
